Much like health insurance, dental insurance is typically offered
through employers as part of an employee benefit package.
However, if you're self-employed, or your employer doesn't offer
dental insurance, what are your options? At Southwestern Benefit Designers
we can help. Currently we offer both individual and
employer-sponsored plans. Group Dental Insurance: Group dental insurance is often defined as employer-sponsored
plans. With these plans, your employer selects the insurance
carrier or dental plan which is offered to full-time and potentially
part-time employees. Typically, and unlike health insurance, group dental insurance is
written on what is called a "guaranteed issue" basis.
Guaranteed issue means that the insurance company or dental plan will
take all enrollees regardless of health status or previous dental
claim history. Individual Dental Insurance: Individual dental insurance is available in many states to
individuals and families who either do not have access to an
employer-sponsored plan, or prefer to have their own plan with the
individual carrier of their choice. Individual dental plans are
only available through a small number of carriers, and benefits vary
greatly. Individual plans can also be cost-prohibitive for some.
There is, however, an alternative: Discounted Dental Plans. Discounted Dental Plans: Unlike dental insurance, a discounted dental plan is NOT insurance.
A discounted plan provides you with access to dentists who will offer
you a discount on their normal fees if you are a member of the
discounted dental plan. At Southwestern Benefit Designers, we also
offer discounted dental plans for those individuals, families and
employer groups who want a more economical option to traditional
dental insurance. In addition to affordability, the available
services increase as well.
